Back to School
A new school year is almost upon us. And students and their parents have a lot going on, but amongst all the stationery labelling and class list sorting don’t forget to set some healthy intentions for the school year too…
Here are a few tips from the team at TM Physio.
Pack Light, Pack Right
Ensure your child’s backpack is no heavier than 10-15% of their body weight. Choose one with wide straps to avoid strain on their shoulders and back.
Stretch and Move
Ensure breaks during study (and screen) time for stretching or short walks. Sitting too long can lead to tight hips and back discomfort.
Shoes Matter
Proper footwear supports the spine and joints. Make sure shoes fit well and offer proper arch support to prevent strain.
Happy studying students!

Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS), commonly known as “runner’s knee,” causes discomfort behind and around the kneecap, often due to improper tracking of the patella in the groove of the femur. 🦵 This can happen because of muscle imbalances, poor alignment, or overuse.
At TM Physio, we assess your movement patterns and focus on strengthening the stabilising muscles around the knee. We’ll also use manual therapy to improve joint function and reduce pain, helping you return to normal activities without discomfort.
Don’t let a sore knee slow you down. Call us today at 6254 9889 or book online at www.tmphysio.com.au/ to make an appointment with one of our physiotherapists.

Osteoarthritis occurs when the protective cartilage between joints breaks down over time, leading to pain, swelling, and stiffness. It’s most common in weight-bearing joints like the knees, hips, and spine, where wear and tear from daily movement can exacerbate the condition. As the cartilage thins, bones can start rubbing together, causing discomfort and limited mobility.
At TM Physio, we target the root causes of osteoarthritis. Through manual therapy, we work to improve joint mobility and reduce stiffness. And we’ll guide you through specific exercises to strengthen muscles around affected joints, relieving pressure and pain. We can’t give you back that cartilage, but we are here to help you manage the condition.
If osteoarthritis is affecting your life, call us at 6254 9889 or book online at www.tmphysio.com.au/ to schedule an appointment. 📞

Phrase of the Month: Ligamentum Flavum 🟡
It’s one of the spine’s unsung heroes! Running between vertebrae, ligamentum flavum (also known as yellow ligament) stabilises the spine while allowing flexibility and movement.
In the 18th century, early anatomists saw the yellow ligament as mainly a structural band between vertebrae, noting its colour but understanding little about its unique elasticity. But why is it yellow? It’s rich in elastin, a stretchy protein so it allows controlled movement while preventing vertebrae from excessive separation during motion.
What an endlessly fascinating, intricate design is the body!
